Lauren Deyo, Mixed Media
Since retiring as a teacher my focus is on art as my “new career”. It has prompted me to take oriental brush painting classes, mixed media workshops and studio work with Janet Bothne at Studio J in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque. Contemporary painting in acrylic and mixed media is my love.
My work has appeared in shows at galleries and venues in the Albuquerque area. The Galeria de Corrales, Corrales, NM and The Gallery ABQ, Albuquerque, NM are galleries where my work is available.
I am a member of the Rio Grande Art Association, and the Corrales Society of Artists. My website: Artbydeyo.com provides another view of the depth of my love for art.
Most recently I completed a series of female portraits influenced by the “Me Too’ movement. These mixed media portraits are on the website. They will be part on the exhibition: Currency What do you value? at 516 Arts, Albuquerque, NM from November through January 2019.
Art is the creative journey which leads my exploration into painting and experimenting with color. These explorations allow my inner child to play with mark making on canvas and wood panels. My love of Oriental brush painting has influenced my work and fuels my practice of utilizing mixed media, such as collage elements into the works I create.
East meets West as I integrate these influences with my passion for abstract expressionism - joining the exacting, methodical style of one, with the free, spontaneous flow of the other. Oriental influences are a natural pairing with my love of nature. As a gardener I'm enamored with flowers and trees which have become subjects of my work.
