Nina Adkins
Water Color
Nina Adkins began watercolor painting to express her more creative side in 1986. She loves color and the Southwest and it is evident in her perception of familiar surroundings. Nina has studied with many nationally known artists, and obtained Signature Member status of the New Mexico Watercolor Society in 1995.
Additionally, Nina was the
Co-Chair for the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies Exhibition held in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2002. She was on the Board of the New Mexico Arts & Crafts Fair for four years, and was Standard’s Chair for 2010. Her paintings hang in private collections in the United States and abroad.

The colors of the Southwest have influenced my painting a great deal. There is no other blue as the blue of the New Mexico Sky, or the wild colors that we see in our sunsets. The colors and mountains of New Mexico have influenced my painting style for many years. I believe this comes from having to live away from them for several years in a wet and dreary climate, and getting to return to my native state.
I love color and I love the way the watermedia colors sing on paper or board. I love the luminosity and transparency that watermedia affords more than any other media. I now add rice paper collage and acrylic paint to many of my works and I feel that this adds to their depth.
