Diana Stauffer rekindled her passion for painting more than 20 years ago and remains particularly drawn to creating skyscapes of the Southwest.

The romanticized and monumental works of 19th century artist Albert Bierstadt and Thomas Moran's paintings of Yellowstone and The Grand Canyon drew her to relocate to the Rocky Mountain West from New England in 1972. Except for a brief professional assignment as a broadcast journalist in Arizona, Diana has made her home in New Mexico.

For Diana, our planet and its wondrous and diverse beauty is her muse which she considers almost like "family" worth protecting as it gives pleasure to all who pause to inhale its dynamic generosity. Being on location - en plein air - in the manner of the French Impressionists, provokes immense gratitude regardless of the ordinary hazards of wind, heat, cold, and annoying flying insects. She tries to paint outdoors regularly as it frequently inspires larger scale studio work.
