Artist Statement
I create fused glass artwork ranging from sculptures, functional dishware, wall hangings, and anything else my mind comes up with. My artwork is constantly evolving through new techniques and processes. I select the glass, cut it into appropriate shapes, arrange it, fuse it in the kiln, and, depending on my desired outcome, slump it into a 3-D form. I love fused-glass artwork because of the vibrant colors, especially when reflecting light at different times of day. I enjoy the surprise of seeing the result because with fused glass, one does not know what the piece looks like until it is finished.
Biography
Linda Weiss is an award-winning fused glass artist who lives and works in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her work explores the transformative properties of glass, emphasizing vibrant color, unexpected forms, and the element of surprise created through kiln firing. Trained in civil engineering and hydrosystems, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic and State University. Before embracing fused glass, Linda created stained-glass windows for nearly 20 years, with her work installed in homes across Massachusetts, Nevada, Illinois, South Carolina, and New Mexico. Currently, she continues experimenting with fused glass plates and sculptures, drawing inspiration from Dale Chihuly, contemporary glass artists, and innovative techniques explored through online classes.
