Laura McIndoo - Pottery

Growing up in an artistic family, I was immersed in art from a young age. My family instilled in me a deep appreciation for creativity and beauty. My early
influences include my mother, a printmaker, my grandmother, a jeweler and painter, and my aunt, a potter. In college, I discovered a pottery studio in my dorm, which sparked my journey into the world of ceramics. Entirely self-taught, I now have over 30 years of experience working with clay.

My career as an ESL teacher took me across Europe, where it became my hobby to study pottery, motifs, and design. Throughout my life, I have been
captivated by patterns and the interplay of nature within my work. I often incorporate textures inspired by geometric and botanical designs, using vibrant
greens and blues to explore the relationship between light and glaze, enhancing the depth of each piece.

Functionality is a cornerstone of my artistic philosophy. I am dedicated to creating beautiful and highly useful art, particularly in my mugs and functional ware, ensuring they are comfortable to use. I primarily use mid-range stoneware and porcelain for their strength and practicality, with all my pieces being dishwasher and microwave safe. In addition to functional pottery, I create textured ‘tile quilts’ that can be displayed on walls and a variety of porcelain jewelry. It brings me great joy to hear from my customers that they happily use my pottery every day.
