Travis Parkin
Acrylic, Mixed Media
Artist Statement
I create abstract paintings and mixed-media works shaped by color, geometry, texture, and the visual rhythms of the New Mexico landscape. Working primarily with acrylics, I build compositions intuitively through layers of paint, restrained geometric forms, found materials, and a process that balances deliberate decisions with spontaneity and surprise. I make art because I am fascinated by the moment when seemingly unrelated colors, shapes, marks, and textures begin to find their own logic—creating something that feels resolved without losing the energy and mystery that brought it to life.

Biography
Travis Parkin is an Albuquerque-based abstract and mixed-media artist working primarily in acrylics from his downtown studio. His work combines restrained geometry, layered surfaces, and an earth-influenced palette reflecting his long connection to the land, light, and sky of New Mexico. A self-taught painter, Parkin came to fine art after decades as an art collector and graphic designer, including more than ten years as founder and creative director of Albuquerque- and Taos-based Guerrilla Graphix. His painting, Lipstick on a Pig, was selected for a full-page reproduction in the inaugural 2026 edition of Horizon Review: A Southwest Literature & Arts Review, and two of his paintings are currently exhibited at the University of New Mexico School of Law. He is currently expanding his practice through a new body of digitally created figurative work that reinterprets historic photographs and cultural figures through contemporary visual languages.
