BIO

With degrees in both chemistry and English, I teach online classes for the University of West Florida in Pensacola, where we lived for ten years. I love doing many kinds of artwork, but currently pastels and pencils are my preferred media.

The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live.
Flora Whittemore

I came across this quote on my hotel room key during a business trip to India in 2007. My experience says it’s true for life, and especially true for the doors I’ve opened to artist communities. Every group of artists that I’ve had the privilege to be part of in the places I’ve lived, like Galveston, Texas; Midland, Michigan; and Pensacola, Florida, have been a blessing in terms of friendships and artistic growth. In the summer of 2019, I began a search for a new artist community after my husband and I moved to New Mexico. I believe I found that group of artists when I opened the door of The Gallery ABQ. The artists here, like all artists, capture something fleeting, images, ideas, or feelings, and they gift those fleeting things to us in their artwork in a way that keeps giving with every viewing. For me, that rendering and giving are what I try to do with my art. For more information, visit my website: njschrock.com.
